As an author of murder mysteries, I tend to look at all sides of everything. I found this book to be a truly fascinating read that held my attention throughout. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from melwest -- No Sacred Cows Here : While the title may seem to telegraph the plot, John Moody’s, "Of Course They Knew, Of Course They..." is nothing like your typical political whodunit. it is an entertaining, sardonic vivisection of the many cliches that have polarized our national conversation around Covid, albeit with its own point of view. In so doing, Moody skewers many institutional or ideological sacred cows. The writing is breezy and assured, the characters colorful and outrageous, the book itself a page-turning fun read. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from Chidlandia -- Gets you looking at things a little differently : Storyline is great and I got absorbed in the characters right away. The overall story made me think about what the media and the government are actually saying and who is really saying it. Doesn't dive deep into where the virus came from but more covers reactions of various people and countries. Thought provoking. My main issue with the book is all the typographical errors. It felt like the author was more interested in meeting deadlines than making sure the book was well written. One misused word is understandable but there were too many to count and often interrupted the flow of thought. I would recommend these errors are found and corrected before a second printing. The book is an eye opener as to what is going on in America and how it’s happening and maybe why. A truly sad read and yet, if we do naught our world will change and not for the good. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Roger Coldiron -- More than SARS CoV-2 : Mr. Moody has packed a lot more into this novel than a theory regarding the origin of SARS CoV-2 pandemic. He illustrates, what I believe, is the inside story regarding what makes China function and what makes it so apparently successful (though ruthless). He also covers, with a little imagination, how radicalization happens in an individual's mind. One of his characters I read as metaphor--to figure out which one, you'll have to read the book. A fascinating read. I hope enough people read this tale to recognize the faulty path we are on. We are destroying ourselves. I just wish there were more answers than questions. His description of the US (near the end of the book) as “the divided States of America” is enough to make you examine your own experiences.
